We would like to take this opportunity to thank Paul Streatfield, who choreographed our piece, and Dr Bishop, our Headmistress, for her ongoing support of the project. Dr Bishop said: “It is such an exciting opportunity for our students to perform at such a prestigious venue as the Royal Albert Hall.” I would also like to thank Royal Albert Hall Education, English National Ballet and the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing for organising and hosting the event.

On hearing about Summertime at the Royal Albert Hall we knew we could not afford to miss such a fantastic and unique opportunity. In addition to the priceless opportunity for all involved, taking part in the project will help raise the profile of dance in the school. Moreover it will encourage the development of the new performing arts carousel.

The Disco/Freestyle style of dance was selected because we thought it would be exciting and a lot of fun. It is a style of dance unfamiliar to most of the girls and not something they would necessarily choose to do otherwise, thus broadening their horizons.

Summertime is a wonderful opportunity for the girls involved to expand their dance experience by learning both a Disco/Freestyle and a Ballet piece. They have been given the opportunity to work alongside professionals from the dance world and perform on the stage of the Royal Albert Hall, the same stage as their idols and countless other celebrities! Not to mention performing in front of an audience of over 3000 people. For most of the girls this will be the biggest, most important performance of their young dancing careers. One of the participants said: “It is a life changing opportunity! It’s fun and amazing to dance in such a big space”.
