Southfields Community College joined Summertime because we thought it was a fantastic idea and an amazing experience for our students. We decided to select Contemporary as our style as most of our students only know Street and Hip Hop, and by selecting a style they didn’t know it would broaden their understanding and appreciation of dance.

The project is an excellent opportunity for our students to have a glimpse of the real world of theatre and dance and to work with a large company of other young people. The project began with a small core group of students; most of them were not too sure of the style saying: “Nah miss, it’s ballet!” But, Rachel’s effervescent personality and choreography soon won them over. Each week there were a few more faces at the studio door until we had our dance company. “This project has created a small company of young dancers, the students’ commitment has been astounding and we can’t wait to see the final product” said Miss Valin, Head Teacher.
