Marshalls Park School and Performing Arts College is a mixed 11–16 oversubscribed comprehensive school that is situated in the north of the London Borough of Havering.

It was awarded specialist status for the performing arts in September 2006 and places a strong emphasis on pupil involvement in a range of arts experience both within the curriculum and outside school hours. We are always seeking out ways of increasing opportunities for pupils to develop the invaluable skills and attributes that learning through the arts brings.

Dance was introduced to the timetable in September 2007 and the Year 8 pupils chosen to take part in the project have had up to half a year’s worth of lessons. We chose Year 8 students for this project to give them a fun and unique opportunity to experience dance in their first steps into the art. The students have realised how disciplined dance is and have organised their own rehearsals during the school day. They have developed into a close group who support each other. Their excitement has increased throughout the rehearsal process and all are looking forward to the performance day.
