Elaine Mayson originally pursued a successful career as a classical ballerina, achieving the level of soloist dancer with the English National Ballet and the Northern Ballet Theatre. In both companies Elaine shared the stage with Rudolph Nureyev, dancing in many of his highly acclaimed productions.

On retirement from dance, Elaine used the resettlement fund to retrain as a professional photographer and is now an award winning dance photographer. She was selected to become a member of the British Institute of Professional Photography (BIPP) in June 1999.

Elaine won awards for her dance photography from the BIPP in 1998, 1999 and 2001 and these prints toured the country with the National Print Exhibition. Dance magazines regularly select her dance photographs for publication.

Her extensive dance experience means that Elaine has a deep understanding of movement and an excellent eye for detail. This, added to her enthusiasm for all forms of dance, brings her to the cutting edge of today's dance photography.

Elaine is an official photographer for the ISTD Dance Examinations Board.
